ATLANTA–Hank Aaron, one of baseball’s most notable figures, has died.

Aaron got his start in the Negro Leagues, and he played for the Indianapolis Clowns in 1952.

Just two years later, he made his Major League Baseball career with the Milwaukee Braves. He stayed with the team when they made the move to Atlanta in 1966.

In 1974, Aaron would smack his 715th career home run, breaking Babe Ruth’s record for most home runs in a career.

He would finish his 23-year in the MLB with 755 career home runs — a record that would stand until 2007, when Barry Bonds broke it. He also had 3,771 total hits — third-most in MLB history — and 2,297 runs batted in, a record that still exists.

Aaron was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982.

He was 86 years old.
