INDIANAPOLIS–An Indianapolis health club closed temporarily Sunday because of Legionnaires’ disease, said an e-mail to members of the Indianapolis Healthplex, at 38th and Guion Rd.

The e-mail said a few members were diagnosed with the disease, which is a type of pneumonia that comes from bacteria.

The Healthplex Facebook page first alerted people it would be closing Sunday at noon, promising an e-mail to its members.

The e-mail said that the people who were infected were active members of the club, but did not give any info on when or how they might’ve been infected. The e-mail said the closure was out of an abundance of caution and that they hoped to be back open soon, as soon as it was confirmed they were free of Legionnaires’, which can contaminate hot water tanks, hot tubs and large air conditioners.

Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, high fever, muscle pain, headaches and diarrhea.
