WASHINGTON, DC – Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett is one of five Indiana mayors to sign a letter asking the senate to to pass gun safety bills that have been approved by the house.
The U.S. Conference of Mayors issued a letter Thursday to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. It had previously been sent in August of 2019, but is being re-issued after mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, Texas. The letter has been updated with new signatures and has bipartisan support with over 250 mayors signing.
The letter urges the senate to pass the Bipartisan Background Check act, and the Enhanced Background Checks Act. The message says both of those bills will “greatly strengthen the background check system” for people trying to purchase guns.
