WIBC Radiothon DOnate Now TO The Salvation Army

ELWOOD, Ind.–There was a vigil Monday night for Elwood Police officer Noah Shahnavaz who was killed on the job Sunday morning. The vigil was held outside the Elwood Police Department.

There were several speakers including the Mayor of Elwood Todd Jones. He said the Elwood Police Department was “lucky to have Noah for 11 months.” Hundreds of supporters showed up.

“It is moments like these when we search for words that will quench the pain and burning inside that doesn’t seem to stop when you lose someone so integral to this community,” said Pastor Matthew Seibel.

Shahnavaz graduated from Fishers High School and was an Army veteran. He died at the age of 24.

Police believe the man who killed Shahnavaz is Carl Boards II. On Monday, Boards was charged with murder, resisting law enforcement, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
