INDIANAPOLIS — It was perfect timing when a woman boating on Geist Reservoir lost her prosthetic leg while there were divers with the Indianapolis Fire Department search and rescue division training nearby.

The woman had called the Department of Natural Resources when she lost her prosthetic leg in about 20 feet of water. The leg costs about $20,000.

The DNR then notified the firefighters already at the reservoir and the went back into the water to try and find her leg.

Low visibility made finding the prosthetic difficult. Divers pulled up sunglasses, beer bottles, and an anchor during their search, but on the third diver’s final pass about an hour in, they found the leg.
