INDIANAPOLIS–Two people were shot on the west side of Indianapolis in an area where police say there was a gathering of young people.

IMPD says the shooting happened just before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Gerrard Drive. That is just north of Washington Street and Lynhurst Drive.

Both shooting victims are expected to survive. Major Kerry Buckner, IMPD Nightwatch Commander, hopes the shooting is not an indication of what the summer will be like.

“Hopefully, things quiet down. I always say people need to keep track of what their kids are doing. Keep track of your kids and know if they’ve got guns and if they’re out running around,” said Buckner.

If you have any information on this shooting or any crime, Buckner asks that you call IMPD or Crimestoppers.
