WASHINGTON — A Vincennes man was arrested earlier this week in connection with the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Jonathan Ace Sanders, Sr. is charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Court papers say an anonymous tip was received by the FBI on Jan. 12. The tipster said that “Jon Sanders” bragged that he was at the Capitol building during the riots and was only 70 feet away from the woman who was shot. The tipster said he possibly worked with Sanders at Lewis Bakery in Vincennes.

Federal agents interviewed Sanders in January at Lewis Bakery. Sanders said he drove to Washington, D.C. with two friends to attend the Stop the Steal Rally.

Sanders told the agents that he and his friends followed a crowd to the Capitol building and that he went inside. He said he went inside the Rotunda area and took pictures and videos. He also said he talked with Capitol Police.

Cell phone data showed that Sanders’ phone was connected to a tower at or near the Capitol building on Jan. 6 between 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The two friends who were with Sanders at the Stop the Steal rally also identified Sanders in surveillance photos.

Other Hoosiers arrested for allegedly taking part in the Capitol riot include Donna Sue Bissey, Anna Morgan-Lloyd, Jon Schaffer, Israel Tutrow, and Joshua Wagner.
