STATEWIDE — Indiana Michigan Power and Indiana Task Force One are heading to Florida in anticipation of Hurricane Ian.
Both teams have made the announcement Tuesday morning, Task Force One will begin staging in Alabama until Hurricane Ian hits Florida.
Over 350 I&M employees will be heading south to Florida help restore power. I&M is sending line workers, damage assessors, forestry experts and various support staff. Those workers are coming from Fort Wayne, South Bend, Elkhart, Marion, Muncie and southwest Michigan.
I&M expects 16-hour days for those workers to restore power to anyone who may lose power from Hurricane Ian.
Currently, they have no set plan on when the workers will return. Should any power outages happen in Indiana while those workers are away, I&M tells customers they will still be ready to respond to outages in Indiana.
Alongside I&M, the state has activated Indiana Task Force One to go to Florida. Task Force One is deploying 45 personnel and 6 support members.
Indiana Task Force 1 is a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that specializes in search and rescue operations. Previously, the task force was deployed to Kentucky to help rescue operations due to the flooding.
