INDIANAPOLIS — On Monday night, the City-County Council unanimously approved an agreement between Indianapolis and Beech Grove, regarding the fire departments.

On December 25, the Indianapolis Fire Department will take over the Beech Grove Fire Department.

IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith says all of Beech Grove’s firefighters and equipment will become part of IFD, but she adds that residents in Beech Grove won’t really notice a difference because Indianapolis firefighters had already been helping cover that area.

Reith says it’s a good thing for Beech Grove firefighters because it will be a good opportunity to grow.

Beech Grove Mayor Dennis Buckley calls it a “win-win,” saying it will make their fire protection much stronger and the taxpayers will save hundreds of thousands of dollars.
