INDIANAPOLIS — A project to replace the Ditch Road bridge over I-465 is behind schedule and won’t be finished until next year, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The Ditch Road overpass closed in March and work was supposed to be done Sept. 30.

INDOT says what was supposed to be a six-month project will now take nearly a year to complete, INDOT spokesperson Mallory Duncan told WISH-TV.

“We had a utility that had to be moved, and then beam production really kind of stopped,” Duncan said. “We couldn’t get any beams in, which you need to build a new bridge.”

By the time crews could move the utility line and get back to working on the actual bridge, they had encountered nearly a four-month setback, according to Duncan.

INDOT says the project should be complete sometime in January.
