INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man has died after fighting another man and falling down a flight of stairs in what the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office is calling a case of self-defense.

On the night of Sept. 9, 2021, police were called to 1778 Cholla Terrace for a disturbance. That’s near Westfield Boulevard and East 86th Street.

Police learned that 50-year-old Brian Hale followed another man up a flight of stairs where a fight began. During the fight, both men fell down the stairs. Hale was unconscious and taken to St. Vincent Hospital.

On Sept. 25, Hale died at the hospital from the injuries he received during the fight and fall.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office ruled Hale’s death a homicide.

The Prosecutor’s Office reviewed the case and determined the case to be self-defense on the part of the other man involved in the fight.
