ISP: 115 Pounds of Cocaine Seized, Worth $2 Million
PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. — A man from Queens, New York is in jail after police found over 100 pounds of cocaine in his semi-trailer.
It was around 5:45 Sunday afternoon when an Indiana State Police Trooper stopped a semi-trailer for an inspection. This happened along I-70 near the 41-mile marker.
The state trooper spoke with the driver, 32-year-old Vikram Sandhu. State Police did not specify what Sandhu said, but it was enough for the trooper to call in a canine unit from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department to search the trailer.
The canine sniffed out what ended up being 115 pounds of cocaine. Sgt. Matt Ames tells WIBC News that the estimated street value of the cocaine is 2-million dollars.
“Personally, that’s the largest seizure I’ve ever seen of cocaine,” says Sgt. Ames, “it is believed that cocaine is starting to make a comeback. It was originally here in the 70s and 80s, and it is believed to be making a comeback.”
State Police also say Sandhu was traveling from Houston, Texas to Indianapolis. He was arrested and taken to the Putnam County Jail.
He’s charged with dealing and possession of narcotics, both felony charges.
