EVANSVILLE, Ind. — A man who was in jail for shooting a Posey County Sheriff’s deputy in the head in September has died at a hospital.
Indiana State Police say 70-year-old Paul Wiltshire was in the Warrick County Jail but was transported to Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Evansville when he became sick on Dec. 17.
The Warrick County coroner says the preliminary cause of Wiltshire’s death is COVID, but an autopsy is being scheduled.
Wiltshire was accused of shooting 41-year-old Deputy Bryan Hicks while exchanging gunshots with police.
