WASHINGTON, D.C.–Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.), made a final push on the U.S. Senate floor for Judge Amy Coney Barrett. She’s expected to be confirmed this evening as the next associate justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.
“She has demonstrated her intellect, legal acumen, and commitment to the Constitution. She is clearly a brilliant jurist who interprets the Constitution as written and carefully weighs the facts of a given case,” said Young. “Despite Senate Democrats’ repeated attempt to drag her into the political fray, Judge Barrett has proven that she will make her decisions based on the law rather than politics.”
Barrett, a former Notre Dame law professor, was chosen by Pres. Donald Trump to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Barrett is now a judge on the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, which hears cases from Indiana.
“Hoosiers are extremely proud of Judge Amy Coney Barrett and the trail she has blazed for others. She is a role model for young women everywhere, including my young daughters. I am incredibly proud that our next Supreme Court Justice will hail from America’s Heartland and the great state of Indiana,” said Young.
Young said he has gotten to know Barrett and family.
“Three years ago, I did not hear a single credible criticism of Judge Barrett based on her legal qualifications. I have not heard one at any time throughout this confirmation process either.”
He said attempts at attacking her for her faith are purely about politics and not her ability to serve as a justice.
