INDIANAPOLIS–Two children and their dad are in the hospital. They were rescued from a burning house on the far east side of Indianapolis Saturday morning. Another man was also pulled from the house, but did not make it.

Indianapolis Fire Dept. Battalion Chief Rita Reith said two neighbors, Bryan Davis and Baili Scheiber, were up talking and had smelled smoke for a while when they realized a house down the street was on fire. That was just after 3 a.m. on North Chester Ave.

They ran down and kicked in the front door, finding two kids, age 7 and 4, standing beside the couch. They got the kids out.

The father was able to get out, but it’s unclear whether he had help.

Another neighbor kicked in the back door and brought another man out who was unconscious and died, even after firefighters tried CPR.

The kids are both in the hospital. The girl, who is 7, was critical.
