ANDERSON, Ind. — A Madison County Councilman is facing charges of child seduction and possession of child pornography.
Indiana State Police say the investigation into Steven Sumner, 52, of Anderson, began in August. The investigation revealed Sumner owned child pornography, and had tried to seduce a minor under the age of 16.
The girl told investigators that Sumner provided her with alcohol, touched her inappropriately and performed sex acts on her. In addition, investigators found 138 pornographic images on Sumner’s cell phone.
Sumner was arrested Monday, and is currently being held on bond. He has been charged with child seduction and possession of child pornography.
Sumner, a Republican, represents District 2 on the Madison County Council after being elected to a second term in 2018. He can continue to serve on the council until the court case is resolved. If convicted, he would be ineligible to continue serving.
