ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — A former special education teacher at Alexandria Monroe High School is accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Daniel P. Kuhn, 36, has been charged with child molesting, a level 4 felony.
Police were first called in March to investigate a possible inappropriate relationship between Kuhn and a 12-year-old student with special needs. Police say that student has an “intellectual intelligence level of a child half her age.”
Court documents say a coworker entered Kuhn’s classroom to ask about using the printer. When he saw Kuhn was not in the main classroom, he went into a secondary room, where he found Kuhn inside with the student.
The coworker said Kuhn and the student were sitting next to each other on the floor, and that Kuhn was “stammering over himself”, and seemed “reluctant” to exit the room. The coworker later told police Kuhn was “visibly aroused” when he left the room.
After this, Kuhn was placed on administrative leave as the school conducted an investigation. During the investigation, another coworker told police that she, too, had found Kuhn and the student alone in the secondary room at one point. In addition, police found Kuhn had wiped his computer after the investigation began.
The school district began canceling Kuhn’s contract during the investigation. However, Kuhn submitted a letter of resignation at a school board meeting before charges were filed.
After Kuhn was charged with child molestation, a second student came forward with similar accusations. No charges have been filed in relation to the second student, but a probable cause affidavit was submitted to the prosecutor’s office.
