GREENFIELD, Ind.—A man died Tuesday after being struck with a taser and hitting his head on concrete during a chase with Greenfield police, Indiana State Police said.

At around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, three Greenfield police officers were investigating a stolen car in the parking lot of a business located at 2055 Barrett Dr. That address corresponds to a Home Depot store.

The man has been identified as 42-year-old David Donelli of Indianapolis. Police believe he stole a car that three Greenfield officers found in the parking lot. Police said when they went inside, Donelli ran outside into the parking lot, state police said.

While chasing Donelli, one officer fired his taser at Donelli. Donelli fell to the ground and hit his head on the concrete. Police said officers immediately tried to help the man until emergency personnel arrived.

Donellli was rushed to a hospital, but he did not survive. State police say he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Greenfield Police Chief Jeff Rasche requested that the Indiana State Police investigate the man’s death.

The police officers involved have been identified as Patrol Officer Jill Jenkins, Patrol Officer Andrew Pfaff, and Lieutenant Matthew Holland.
