INDIANAPOLIS — A man died Thursday night after being hit while attempting to cross I-465 on Indy’s west side.

Just before 8 p.m., police were called to northbound I-465 at the 17.5-mile marker on a report of a person hit by a car.

Officers arrived and found a man unconscious and unresponsive in the left lane.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car who hit the man stayed at the scene and talked to investigators. The driver is not suspected to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Another vehicle parked on the shoulder of the interstate near the scene of the crash is believed to be associated with the victim, according to State Police.

The identity of the victim is being withheld until family members are notified.
