IMPD identified the man as 33-year-old James Williams. Police say Williams pointed a gun at detectives as they were trying to talk to him, leading to the shooting.


INDIANAPOLIS — A person died Wednesday after being shot by a member of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
According to IMPD, the Violent Crimes Unit was tracking a murder suspect and found them at a gas station at the intersection of 21st Street and Ritter Ave. at around 12 p.m. Tuesday.
The suspect had a gun and, during the encounter with police, was shot by an IMPD officer.
Medics were called to the gas station to attend to the person, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
IMPD did not provide the shooting victim’s name or the name of the officer involved.
No officers were hurt in the shooting.
