INDIANAPOLIS — Criminals are calling people in Marion County as part of a jury duty scam, warns Sheriff Kerry Forestal.

The scammers threaten victims by saying they have missed jury duty and must pay a fine; otherwise, they will be arrested and jailed.

“It is shameful that individuals would abuse faith in the criminal justice system in order to take advantage of citizens, especially as we approach the holidays,” said Sheriff Kerry Forestal. He continued, “Although this is not the first time this type of scam has been attempted, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office will never contact citizens seeking telephone fines for failed jury service.”

If you get this kind of phone call, contact the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office at 317-327-5600.
