MOORESVILLE, Ind. — Morgan County’s first Safe Haven Baby Box will be available to the public beginning Tuesday.

The box is located at the Mooresville Fire Station at 415 East State Road 144 in Mooresville.

It is the 39th Safe Haven Baby Box installed nationwide.

Fundraising efforts for the baby box were led by Mooresville Town Councilman Dustin Stanley. Funds collected from people and organizations in the community covered the initial cost of installation, which is approximately $15,000.

Each Safe Haven Baby Box is equipped with alarm systems to notify staff inside the fire station immediately. The box also has heating and cooling features and the outside door locks as soon as the baby is placed inside.

Indiana’s Safe Haven Law allows parents to anonymously surrender their healthy newborns 30 days or younger at any fire station without fear of criminal prosecution.
