More Safe Haven Baby Boxes Could Pop Up In Indiana
INDIANAPOLIS — More Safe Haven Baby Boxes could be coming to Indiana.
The boxes have become a resource for women who want to surrender their babies safely.
To make the boxes more widely available across Indiana and other states, Envoy Companies have partnered with Safe Haven Baby Boxes to sponsor baby boxes in all future fire station projects.
“We have worked with several fire departments across Indiana to install the Safe Haven Baby Box and look forward to making this resource more available for women,” said Scott Baldwin, President of Envoy Companies.
Envoy is donating $10,000 to help fire stations get the Safe Haven Baby Boxes. Envoy has installed boxes in Vernon Township, Carmel, and White River Township.
There are 37 Safe Haven Baby Boxes across Indiana, Ohio, and Arkansas.
Indiana passed the Safe Haven Law in 2000, which allowed people to anonymously surrender their newborn babies without fear of criminal prosecution at any fire station.
The baby boxes can be installed at any 24/7 staffed fire station, and someone inside the station will be notified if a baby is placed inside. The boxes also have heating and cooling features to keep the baby safe, and locks as soon as the baby is placed inside.
