INDIANAPOLIS — Multiple fire departments were battling a fire Friday afternoon at a recycling center on the city’s west side.

The fire was reported at 2:46 p.m. Friday at the Omni Source recycling plant at 2205 S. Holt Road. That’s just northeast of the I-70 interchange for the Sam Jones Expressway.

Smoke rose from the area and was visible from I-70 near I-465. In addition to the smoke, high winds and low water pressure made firefighting efforts more difficult, according to the Wayne Township Fire Department.

No injuries have been reported. Holt Road remained open, but was occasionally closed so trucks could take more water to the fire.

On the night of Jan. 10, 2015, the scrap metal shredder building had a large fire at the Omni Source facility.
