Muncie Police Officer Arrested for Drunk Driving, Put On Administrative Leave
MUNCIE, Ind. — A veteran Muncie police officer is on administrative leave following a drunk driving arrest.
Damon Stovall, 48, was preliminarily charged with driving while intoxicated.
“This administration is committed to officers taking responsibility for their actions and holding them accountable,” Police Chief Nate Sloan told The Star Press on Tuesday. “This matter will be thoroughly investigated and dealt with according to law and Muncie police policy.”
According to a news release, Stovall is believed to have shown up at a crime scene while intoxicated.
Stovall was off-duty on Sunday when he was called to help with an investigation. After he arrived, supervisors suspected he had been drinking. He was taken to City Hall and state police were asked to investigate, according to The Star Press.
A breath test determined that Stovall had a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.
A decision on what formal charges may be filed will be made after prosecutors receive and review reports from Indiana State Police.
