INDIANAPOLIS–The NFL has decided to honor a man who was shot and killed by an Indianapolis police officer as one of its “social justice heroes.”

On Twitter Wednesday, the NFL said Dreasjon Reed is on the list of 87 “victims of systemic racism, victims of police misconduct, and social justice heroes.”

Reed, 21, was shot and killed by an IMPD officer during a chase on May 6. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says Reed shots at an officer in an exchange of gunfire. In mid-November, a special prosecutor said a Marion County grand jury declined to charge the police officer in Reed’s death. Reed streamed on Facebook Live the police chase leading to the gunfire.

In the tweet the NFL released, the dates of his birth and death are displayed along with a comment from his mother, Demetree Wynn. “He deserved justice! He was a human being, a son, a brother, and a friend. He is my son and I love him,” said Wynn.

At Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, the Colts will honor Gregory Hylton, who died Friday from cancer. Hylton helped the Colts create a ticket sales department in 1997 and eventually became the Vice President of Premium Seating and Ticket Sales.

“Colts players will wear a “For Greg” ribbon helmet decal, while coaches and staff will wear a “For Greg” ribbon lapel pin. What’s more, players, coaches, cheerleaders and staff will wear special tribute T-shirts at different points before and during the game.” said the Colts in a news release Wednesday. “The team will honor Greg with a pre-game video and a tribute in The Scout, the team’s gameday publication.”

Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans is being limited to 10,000 fans because of coronavirus restrictions.
