SPEEDWAY, Ind. — The Indianapolis 500 was run with 135,000 fans in attendance, roughly 40-percent seating capacity.

As the Indianapolis Motor Speedway moves on from the “500” and onto the next event on their calendar, they are getting final preparations in place for the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard (formerly known as the Brickyard 400.)

IMS President Doug Boles says that as of right now, there are no plans to have any kind of COVID restrictions in place for the race.

“I’m really hopeful that there are no restrictions,” Boles said. “But, even if we were in a 40-percent capacity restriction, like we were for the 500, that’s still 135,000 people and really in the last several years for Brickyard weekend we don’t come close to that.”

Boles said attendance for the Brickyard has been roughly 60,000 to 70,000 people in the last few years, and that’s with absolutely no restrictions in place. Still, Boles said they are being proactive in seating people for the tripleheader weekend.

“As we’re putting people in seats we’re already just automatically spacing just a little bit,” said Boles. “That’s so if we’re in a situation we don’t have to re-seat folks so we’re doing everything we can to be prepared.”

Boles reiterates that as of right now there are really no restrictions he can think of.

The Verizon 200 at the Brickyard will be the main event on the IMS road course on Sunday, Aug. 15. It will be the first-ever NASCAR Cup race on the road course.

It will cap off a weekend that will include a second NTT IndyCar Series road race at IMS along with the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday, Aug. 14.
