STATEWIDE–Temperatures that are “warmer than normal for December” will be around Thursday and Friday across Indiana, but that is expected to change during the weekend.

“If you live closer to Michigan, the temperatures won’t quite reach 60. However, if you live down near the Ohio River, there will be some spots that get closer to 70. Right now, we’re getting a lot of air that’s originating in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s pushing its way up here. We’re also kind of cut off from a lot of that Canadian air that typically gives us those colder temperatures into December,” said Andrew White, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

White says a cold front starts to move through Friday night.

“Temperatures on Saturday will be a little cooler with temperatures to be in the low to mid-40s for most people. We’ll briefly warm back up again on Sunday with temperatures in the 50s, but we are expecting some rain that day,” said White.

White thinks there could be a “wintry weather system” that would move in early next week, but he’s not sure how much winter weather will arrive in Indiana.

“Most likely somewhere in the Midwest, there is going to be some significant accumulating snow. There is still a lot of uncertainty about exactly what will happen. Even the timing is still uncertain. By this weekend, we should have a better idea,” said White.
