STATEWIDE--What is left of Ida will bring rain and thunderstorms through Indiana on both Monday and Tuesday.

Ida was a Category 4 hurricane at one point but weakened to a tropical storm as it moved north.

“It looks like the southern part of Indiana will receive a glancing blow from the remnants of Ida into the early part of the work week,” said Joe Nield, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “We expect quite a bit of showers and thunderstorms from it later today and then on Tuesday as well.”

Nield says the heaviest rain will likely be along and south of the Ohio River.

“With the remnants of Ida, heavy downpours and localized flooding are going to be the main concerns because those tropical air masses tend to be very efficient rainfall producers,” said Nield.

Nield expects less rainfall in the central part of the state with very little of Ida’s remnants to reach northern Indiana.

“From Sullivan and Bloomington to Columbus and southward, we could see an inch to an inch and a half over the next couple of days,” said Nield.

The high temperatures will also drop over the next few days all across the state.

“We are going to see some relief from the heat that we’ve been experiencing. Through mid-week into the latter portion of the week, we’re looking at highs in the upper 70s to around 80 across much of the area. As we get into the weekend, we’ll warm up a bit, but we’ll still remain in the low to mid-80s,” said Nield.
