STATEWIDE–Rain is supposed to continue falling all throughout Indiana during the week, but Tuesday is the day that has the National Weather Service most concerned.

“It’s a pretty widespread rain event. There is potential for heavy rain across most of the state for the next couple of days. We’ve been fairly dry. At least today (Monday), we’re not anticipating a big flooding threat, but as we get into tomorrow (Tuesday), those multiple rounds of heavy rain are going to start adding up. We may have a threat for flash flooding Tuesday,” said Crystal Pettet, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

Pettet calls this rain “beneficial,” but some of the rain showers could have embedded thunderstorms.

“Depending on how things line up Tuesday, if you get an area that sees multiple rounds over the same spot, then we could wind up seeing more flash flooding in that same spot,” said Pettet.

The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a “slight risk” for severe weather on Tuesday. That generally implies that severe weather events are expected to be isolated.

Temperatures are also expected to drop in the coming days.

“Then, when we get into the middle of the week, we’re looking at things being a lot more fall-like. Highs will be in the lower 60s on Wednesday and the same can be expected for Wednesday. Low temperatures will likely be into the low and mid-40s on Thursday night,” said Pettet.

Pettet believes temperatures will warm up again by the end of the week and be just shy of the 80s.
