INDIANAPOLIS — One of the last remaining survivors of the USS Indianapolis has died.
Jim Jarvis died Saturday at the age of 98, according to the USS Indianapolis Facebook page. According to the Suburbanite.com, Jarvis was a longtime resident of Uniontown, Ohio.
Jarvis was one of 1,195 men aboard the Indianapolis when it was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine on July 30, 1945. He was among the 890 men stranded in the open ocean after the ship went down. Four days after the Indianapolis sank, Jim and 315 other survivors were rescued.
