INDIANAPOLIS  — A woman is in critical condition after a shooting on the city’s east side.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department says officers were called to the 2100 block of North Shadeland Avenue near the Circle K gas station because of a person shot on Saturday just after 1 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene they found the woman, and she was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

An investigation into the shooting is underway. Police say they have identified a possible suspect who left the scene before police arrived.

The suspect then crashed his car on North Arlington Avenue and ran. Police said there was a child in the car, who was not hurt.

It is unclear at this time what led to the shooting. The woman has not been identified.
