INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Thousands of new jobs could soon come to Indianapolis after plans to redevelop the Pan Am Plaza move forward.
A statement from city-county councilor Ali Brown says the project could create more than 3,000 new union construction jobs and more than 1.9 million collective work hours.
She says this will guarantee another revenue stream for local and downtown businesses.
The proposed Signia Hotel would be 42 levels. It’s a Hilton-affiliated brand.
It would be constructed with white, mirrored glass.
The project was first announced in 2018.
In July, the Indianapolis Business Journal reported that construction is delayed to the second half of 2022.
The project adds a 50,000 square foot ballroom to the convention center and a pedestrian sky bridge on Capitol Avenue.
Construction on a second hotel will not start until at least two years after the first hotel opens.
The second hotel would be 23 levels.
The first hotel wouldn’t open until at least 2024.
The full council is expected to vote on the proposals in September.
