INDIANAPOLIS–He’s being remembered by his colleagues as a man who served with honor and was a champion for his district. Those were the sentiments of Representative Ron Bacon’s (R-Chandler) colleagues at the Statehouse Thursday afternoon.
Bacon has already announced that he is retiring. He gave a farewell speech on the House floor Thursday.
“I’m gonna miss being here because of the service I’ve had with you. I truly appreciate every bit of that. I always worked on both sides. When I do a bill, it’s going to have a Democrat on it if I have to break somebody’s arm to do it. If they don’t like it, I’ll make them like it somehow,” Bacon said.
Representative Wendy McNamara (R-Evansville) was impressed with the work Bacon has done.
“I observed him for hours and hours working with a singular person on a singular issue to make sure that turned out in the favor of that constituent,” McNamara said.
Representative Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville) agreed with McNamara.
“He truly wants to be there for all of southwest Indiana. I think that shows a lot about his heart for the area and his willingness to serve all,” Sullivan said.
Bacon says he intends to stay in government and may run for a position in Warrick County, but he hasn’t decided yet.
Bacon has represented District 75, which is comprised of large portions of Warrick, Spencer, and Pike counties.
He has described himself as an advocate for fiscal integrity through a balanced state budget, meaningful tax reform, increased economic development, and family values.
