INDIANAPOLIS — Five people were shot outside a funeral home on the northwest side of Indianapolis Saturday afternoon.

Indy Metro Police say the shooting happened in a parking lot, near the intersection of 30th and Clifton. That’s near Martin Luther King Jr. Street and I-65.

Police said a man got out of a car and walked up to a truck and a verbal fight began. The man then pulled out a gun and began shooting around the parking lot and truck, then ran away before police arrived.

There was a funeral happening inside Sprowl Funeral & Cremation Care at the time of shooting.

Among the people shot were a 4-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl. The child was taken to Riley Hospital for Children in critical condition. The teenager, and a man, were taken by ambulance to different hospitals. Their injuries are not life threatening.

IMPD Officer Genae Cook added that two more people with gunshot injuries walked into Methodist Hospital, and police believe they came from the shooting near the funeral home.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett released a statement on the shooting Saturday night:
