SOUTH BEND, Ind.–A student at John Adams High School in South Bend was stabbed at the beginning of the school day Tuesday. Police got the call about 8 a.m.

“This morning we received word that at 8 a.m. one of our students at Adams had been stabbed,” said South Bend Community School Corp. Superintendent Dr. Todd Cummings, speaking with reports at about 11 a.m. “We know that the student is stable.”

Cummings did not identify the student.

Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski said “multiple juveniles” had been detained.

“We want to say that our thoughts and our hearts go out to the family, as well as all the families that were impacted today by the lockdown,” said Cummings.

They did not discuss the nature of the injuries to the student, beyond it being a stabbing.
