AURORA, Ind. — Indiana State Police investigators are working with police from Ohio to help solve a missing persons case after a vehicle connected to a family’s 2002 disappearance was found in the Ohio River near Aurora.

In April 2002, the Delhi Township Police Department in Ohio began investigating the disappearance of Stephanie Van Nguyen, 26, and her two children, 4-year-old Kristina and 3-year-old John. Van Nguyen was last known to be driving a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder.

Evidence indicated Van Nguyen left a note saying that she was going to drive into the Ohio River. However, her SUV was never found and Van Nguyen and her children have not been seen since.

The Delhi Township Police Department began reviewing the case again recently. A thorough search of the river using sonar led divers to locate a vehicle that matched the description of Van Nguyen’s SUV. The license plate confirmed it belonged to Van Nguyen.

Divers worked Thursday to bring the vehicle to the surface. It was located at a depth of over 50 feet and was approximately 300 feet from the river bank.

Indiana State Police investigators will examine the vehicle to determine if Van Nguyen or her two children were inside.
