NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — A father and his 4-year-old son died in a crash early Saturday.

It happened along State Road 32 where a bridge had been under construction. INDOT said the bridge was removed and being replaced.

Christopher Edwards, 28, of Tennessee and originally from Anderson, and his 4-year son died in the crash.

Sheriff’s deputies say first responders followed a plume of black smoke and found the Chevy Camaro engulfed in flames in the creek bed below where the bridge used to be about a mile outside Noblesville.

Investigators think the Camaro was heading west on State Road 32, where multiple “Road Closed” signs were posted. The car went through some of the signs and was going at “a high rate of speed” when it left the road, became airborne, and fell into the creek.

They are trying to figure out why Edwards didn’t stop upon seeing the “road closed” signs.
