KOKOMO, Ind.–Three siblings died Saturday after being rescued from their burning house, said Indiana State Police. The fire happened just before 11 a.m. in Miami County, northeast of Kokomo.

The children were ID’d as Miracle, Steven and Wilma Gingerich, ages 6,5, and 18 months, respectively.

Police said their mother smelled smoke and tried to get upstairs to get them out of the house, but was unable. When state police and deputies arrived they also tried to get to the kids, who were in a bedroom, but were unable.

Firefighters finally arrived and used a ladder to get to the bedroom. They were able to rescue tow of the children and the third once the fire was put out.

The children were taken to the hospital, where they died.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but police do not suspect foul play.
