IMPD: Child Shot On Indy’s West Side Recovering at Hospital
INDIANAPOLIS — A child is stable after being found with a gunshot wound Thursday night in a house on the near-west side of Indianapolis.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said they were told about a shooting around 11:30 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of North Elder Avenue. That’s east of North Belmont Avenue between 10th Street and West Michigan Street.
The child was taken to Riley Hospital for Children. The child’s age was not immediately available, but police said the child was roughly 2 years old.
The child, the child’s mother and father, and at least two other children were sleeping in bed in the house when the toddler was shot, said IMPD. Police think the gunshots were fired outside the house.
“The Indianapolis community is tired of seeing this stuff. This isn’t the first incident that we’ve had a child shot. It’s uncalled for. It’s unacceptable. Our agency will do its due diligence to hold this person accountable,” said IMPD Nightwatch Commander Mike Leepper.
Police are searching for suspects. If you have any information, call IMPD or Crimestoppers (317-262-TIPS).
