INDIANAPOLIS—One of the last remaining survivors of the USS Indianapolis sinking died on Thanksgiving.

Adolfo “Harpo” Celaya died at the age of 94.

The USS Indianapolis Facebook page says Celaya joined the Navy when he was 17 years old and boarded the ship in 1944. He was one of the youngest crew members to survive at the time. After surviving the attack, he went on to finish high school.

“Even till the end he made us laugh, and was always there to remind us to ‘mantente fuerte’ (stay strong),” said the Facebook post.

Celaya was one of four remaining survivors. The last surviving Marine died in May.
