STATEWIDE — Velvet Ice Cream is recalling all ice cream and sherbet made after March 24 because it might be tainted with listeria.

Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, or people with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

The recalled products were sold in various containers at stores in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia.

The products were sold under the brand names of Buehler’s, Discount Drug Mart, North Star Frog Split, Whale of a Pale, Ruggle’s, Super Dip, and Velvet Ice Cream.

If you have any of the ice cream or sherbet, you should throw it away and not eat it. You can also return it to the store of purchase for a refund.

You can contact Velvet Ice Cream at 800-589-5000, Ext. 237, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. EST weekdays or go online to contact Velvet Ice Cream.
