EVANSVILLE, Ind. — The wife of a murdered firefighter and her lover have both been charged in his death three years later.

Back in 2019, Robert Doerr was found murdered outside his home. At first police suspected his wife Elizabeth Fox-Doerr after she gave them conflicting information.

Fox-Doerr was eventually charged with false informing and obstruction. She was found to have deleted evidence of phone calls between she and Larry Richmond Sr. on the night of the murder. Those charges were eventually dropped.

Back in July Fox-Doerr was arrested again for perjury, but police would not elaborate on why.

Now, she’s been charged with murder along with Richmond who is already in federal prison on separate weapons charges.

“We are relieved that the long wait is over and the individuals involved in this murder are being brought to justice for not only Robby’s murder but the pain they have caused his family, his friends, and our department,” said Evansville Division Fire Chief Mike Larson.

“He was a son, a brother, a father, and a grandfather,” Larson added. “His brothers and sisters of this department, and now we can finally bring some closure to this nightmare we’ve been living the last three-and-a-half years.”

Police are not sure yet who, either Fox-Doerr or Richmond, fired the fatal shot that killed Robert Doerr.
