18-Year-Old Drunk Driver Hits ISP Patrol Car

The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday on US 20 in LaGrange County.

LA GRANGE CO., Ind. -- An 18-year-old from LaGrange County is in big trouble after hitting a State Trooper's patrol car while driving drunk.

ISP says Austin McKnight of Wolcottville was three times over the legal limit when he crashed into Trooper Daniel Burkey's car on US 20 at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Trooper Burkey says, he saw McKnight's Infinity backing up down the middle of the road near County road 200 East and steered left to avoid a crash. McKnight turned in the same direction and hit the right front portion of Burkey's car.

Both men were checked out at a local hospital and released. Trooper Burkey has a few cuts and bruises, but is not seriously hurt.

McKnight was taken to the LaGrange Co. Jail and faces several charges, including multiple counts of Operating While Intoxicated.
