260 to 259: Columbus City Council Candidate to Request Recount

Incumbent Dascal Bunch lost his seat to Democrat challenger Jerone Wood by one vote and is expected to file for a recount.

COLUMBUS, Ind. -- He lost his seat on the Columbus City Council by one vote. Now, incumbent Dascal Bunch wants a recount.

Bunch, a Republican, lost his seat representing District 1 to Democrat challenger Jerone Wood, 260 to 259. Wood was one of four Democrats who won City Council seats last week, giving the party their first majority on the council in 36 years.

But the results may not hold, reports The Republic newspaper. Bunch plans to request a recount by the end of the week.

The candidate or party chair must file the request for a recount with the clerk’s office. The request would then be randomly assigned to a Bartholomew County judge as a civil case, according to Bartholomew Co. Clerk Jay Phelps.
