911 Audio From Apartment Fire: "They're throwing the babies out the window."
INDIANAPOLIS -- Fire and flames tore through an east side apartment complex in Indianapolis Friday night.
A mother and her children became trapped on the third floor of the Pangea Prairie Apartments and the only way out was through a window. Dispatchers and Indianapolis firefighters have released the 911 calls from people looking on that night.
Woman: “I know, I see there’s people trying to jump off the 3rd floor.”
Dispatcher: “They’re jumping off the third floor?
Dispatcher: “What’s the address of your emergency?”
Woman: “They are throwing kids out the window here at 46th and Arlington.”
The fire started at around 9:30 Friday. Firefighters arrived to find flames shooting out of the roof and people still trying to get out of the building. They included a mother along with her 3-year-old and seven-month children.

Firefighters say a group of men from inside the building gathered outside the woman’s window and convinced her to throw the children to safety and then jumped herself.
Woman: “They’re throwing babies out the window!”
Dispatcher: “They’re throwing the baby out the window?”
Woman: “Yes we’ve got the babies!”
The family of all jumped to safety and they are all okay. But, quite a few people lost everything they own in the fire.
