HENDRICKS COUNTY — A big road construction project in Avon that was scheduled for this summer is now delayed until 2019.

The town of Avon announced that reconstruction of County Road 200 North (21st Street on the Marion County side) between Ronald Reagan Parkway and County Road 900 East won’t begin until next spring.

There’s been a sign on 200 North announcing the upcoming work since last year.

But the town says that delays in obtaining the state required permits and right-of-way acquisition and a longer-than-expected timeframe for moving utility lines as the reasons for pushing the project to spring 2019.

This means two phases of reconstruction on 200 North will take place next year instead of one phase.

Work on the first phase, between County Road 900 East and Ronald Reagan Parkway, is expected to take 12 weeks.

The second phase, between Dan Jones Road and County Road 900 East, should take 16 weeks.

The bidding process will begin this fall. Due to the delay, the town will be getting estimates for doing temporary repairs on areas that need attention now.

Next year’s work will require tearing up the entire road down to the base and reconstructing it.
