PERU, Ind. — A group of Boy Scouts and two fishermen are to thank for saving the lives of two brothers who flipped their kayaks.

Tim and Jimmy Ratliff were stranded in the water for almost an hour after they both fell into Mississinewa Lake on Saturday.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said a group of Boy Scouts from Zionsville, were hiking around the lake when they heard someone shouting for help. They went to investigate and saw two men floating in the water.

Two scouts from Troop 69 ran to the boat ramp to get help, while another called 911, according to the Kokomo Tribune.

Around this time, two fishermen were on their way back to the ramp. They saw the kayakers and helped them into their boat.

Tim and Jimmy Ratliff were taken to Dukes Memorial Hospital in Peru.

Deputies say the actions of the Boy Scout Troop and the two fishermen saved the kayakers lives.
