Burnt Body Found in Abandoned Home on Indy's West Side

Firefighters were called to that home around 1 am on Warman Avenue near 12th street.

INDIANAPOLIS--A burnt body was found inside in an abandoned home on the west side of Indianapolis Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to that home around 1 am on Warman Avenue near 12th street, which is not far from the Way of Holiness Ministry.

Investigators found the body in the backyard. There was also an overnight house fire there.

Police originally called the scene a death investigation, but are now treating it as a homicide. They also said the body was so badly burned that they couldn't figure out if the victim was a man or woman.

It is unclear how the body ended up in the backyard.

Police got a warrant to search the home and didn't find anything inside.
