Business Owners Along Red Line Route Remind You They Are Still Open
INDIANAPOLIS — The Red Line is happening whether you like it or not.
Instead continuing that conversation of love it of hate it, several business along College Avenue on the north side of Indianapolis, are joining forces in order to stay in business as Red Line construction moves forward.
“This is only going to help our community having this form of transportation,” said Clarissa Morley, owner of Pots & Pans Pie Co., to WISH-TV.
“It will hurt a lot of businesses, I don’t know if everyone will be, but I know a few that will be directly affected. They may not be able to stay in business,” said Red Key Tavern owner Jim Settle.
In spite of their different views on the Red Line, both Morley and Settle have teamed up with Chelsea Marburger, the executive director of the Meridian-Kessler Neighborhood Association, in a push to make sure you don’t forget that businesses along College are still open during the construction.
“We wanted to change the narrative instead of having the same conversations over and over and over again about whether you love it, whether you hate it, what you feel about it,” said Marburger. “It’s happening, and we wanted to be able to change that narrative in a positive way to be able to support our businesses.”
Marburger has had more than 2,000 blue pins made with the #CommittedToCollegeAve message to help raise awareness. The pins are attached to a card that lists all 76 businesses on College Avenue impacted by Red Line construction from 38th to 66th streets.
All three hope the pins will help remind customers their businesses are still open, and that customers will have to make the extra effort during this time ti keep it that way.
